NEWS FROM CAP JULUCACap Juluca is a romantic, sophisticated and secluded 179-acre retreat with 58 spacious air-conditioned oceanfront luxury rooms and junior suites, seven suites and six pool villas located in 18 very private Moorish style two-storey beachfront villas. There is a pool and a choice of two beaches: the white one-mile stretch of Maunday's Bay and Cove Bay with one and a half miles. Cap Juluca is now fully operational following a multi million dollar refurbishment due to damage caused by Hurricane Lenny in November 1999. * ALL THE ROOMS, SUITES AND PRIVATE VILLAS HAVE BEEN REFURBISHED from top to bottom replacing air conditioners, cracked tiles, worn wooden jalousies etc. but still retaining the same rather minimalist, but romantic feeling that is the trademark of our accommodations and that won us 'World's Highest Rated Hotel Room' in the 1999 Conde Nast Traveler Gold List. * THE MAIN HOUSE has been refurbished including the Reception, Lounge, Library and Media Room. A large white canvas dome is now over the lounge area just by the sea side. This is lit up at night and can be seen from afar. * TENNIS COURTS have been RESURFACED. * Our present HEALTH CLUB has been doubled in size with all new exercise equipment. * We have set up a new CAP JULUCA EXECUTIVE ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURE SERVICE for everyone who flies into St. Martin, and has to then get over to Anguilla and back again. This service means that the guest will no longer have to wait in a long line for immigration or to collect their luggage, everything will be done for them in both directions. * We took the opportunity to ENHANCE THE LANDSCAPING during our period of closure - we now have TWO NEW WATER FEATURES where none had existed before. The first is located at the entrance to the Main House. This feature using bamboo accents the natural grade to create a series of falls that cascade into a lower pond that is planted with water lilies. The second feature is between the Main House and Vermilion (Villa one). Embers glow at night from within that feature, as if they were floating on the water. The combination of fire, water, earth and air we hope will be looked upon very favourably by the Arawak gods! There will soon be plenty of new ground cover, plants and trees including lots of bougainvillea, oleander, hibiscus, plumbago, heliconia, lantana, frangipani, Poinciana etc. and many species of palm trees. Fire torches light up the entrance to Cap Juluca before the lagoon crossing. LANDSCAPE LIGHTING both for the trees and villas has been added to further enhance the romantic feeling of Cap Juluca at night. * PIMMS by the waterside has been TOTALLY RESTORED, with NEW MENUS and George, our Executive Chef has brought in FOUR NEW CHEFS. Our FRENCH ASIAN cuisine includes on the menu such new items as Coconut Milk Soup with lobster and toasted poppy seeds, Roast Chilean Sea Bass with Cassava puree, Black Truffle and Lemon Balm consommé, and Pan Seared Wild Duck with Ginger Mango glaze, and, of course, lots of seafood. Not forgetting wonderful desserts such as Chocolate Mocha Pave with Vanilla and Passion Fruit cream or the Grand Marnier Saverin with Orange Mousseline and Mint Chocolate shavings. * GEORGE'S on the beach has also been completely restored, it has a wonderful NEW BAR to one side of the restaurant. There is also a completely NEW KITCHEN and, of course, a GRAND NEW MOROCCAN tent, but George's will still remain the wonderful casual place that it always was - a place where you can just wander off the beach and eat refreshing salads, delicious sandwiches, fabulous pastas, or fresh grilled seafood. The cuisine can be described as CONTEMPORARY TROPICAL. We are keeping the very popular theme nights of West Indian Buffet on Monday and Big Beach BBQ on Fridays, but will be adding during the season (February) another one 'THE NIGHT OF THE MOORS' - where we will be serving wonderful Moroccan and North African dishes. Unlike anything else on Anguilla. * We have OPENED A THIRD RESTAURANT next door to Pimms, which hangs over both the beach and the water. This will be something totally new to Anguilla, an INTERNATIONAL HORS d'OEUVRERIE and TAPAS BAR called KEMIA (ke-MEE-ya the North African name for Tapas!) It features a wide selection of appetizer size dishes from around the world. Selections will eventually include Dim Sum, Sushi, Bento Boxes, Chicken Satay, Scallop Ceviche, Petit Lamb Chops with Dried Fig Sauce, Moroccan style Merguez Sausage, Vietnamese Spring Rolls, Indian Samosas, and of course, the classic Spanish tapas such as Gazpacho, Patatas Bracas and Calamares Fritos. A special drinks menu will also be available, as will some mouth watering desserts. Kemia has a wonderful romantic candlit bar, very like the 'kasbah' with a gold tented ceiling and banquettes filled with soft cushions. Kemia will be open from 12 noon - 12 midnight. This restaurant is particularly great for people who have had a large lunch and want to 'graze' on something during the evening, whilst having a drink! * We will be opening a state of the art SPA on the point close to Pimms in late 2001. Collier and Collier who put together the Spas at the Four Seasons in Jimbaran Bay and Sayan in Bali, and the new Spa at the Raffles Hotel in Singapore amongst many others, will be looking after the Spa at Cap Juluca. As a prelude to the opening of the spa we will be offering our NEW SPA RITUALS this season. We have five full time therapists three part time therapists, and guests can have these rituals either in the treatment rooms in the Main House, in the privacy of their own room or suite, on the beach. Spa Rituals will include a Cap Juluca Ritual for two, A Javanese Lulur Royal Ritual, Balinese massage, Sports Massage, Aromatherapy, Reflexology and Facials. There will also be kinesiology, regression therapy, personal training, private and couples yoga, private circuit training, an introduction to mindful meditation and massage lessons for couples. * There will soon be a GAZEBO on the western end of Maunday's Bay up on the sand dune looking due West and also South to the mountains of St. Martin. This will be used for WEDDINGS, and also for people who wish an OUTDOOR MASSAGE in a truly wonderful setting.
