INTERNATIONAL AWARDS RECEIVED FOR ENVIRONMENTAL IMPROVEMENT AND EXCELLENCE IN GROUND MANAGEMENT(October 6, 1999) -- Cap Juluca resort received two international awards this week for environmental improvement and excellence in grounds management. The resort received the Grand Award for its erosion control project in the 30th Annual Environmental Improvement Awards Program sponsored by the Associated Landscape Contractors of America (ALCA). ALCA's Environmental Improvement Awards Prograrn reflects the association's commitment to creating and preserving the beauty of landscapes and rewards landscape professionals who execute quality projects. ALCA is a trade association representing approximately 1,600 organizations. Cap Juluca also received the Honor Award for excellence in grounds management from the Professional Grounds Management Society (PGMS) in the hotel/resort category. Cap Juluca also won this award in 1997. The 1999, 27th annual, PGMS awards represented the best the contest has ever seen, with entries up 83 percent over last year. Twenty-two states, the District of Columbia and the British West Indies were represented. Both awards will be presented to Kerry Knotts, Director of Horticulture and Development at Cap Juluca, in conjunction with the Green Industry Expo in Baltimore, Maryland, November 13-16.
